In the foreground she practiced many different artistic techniques, but in the background she continued to develop drawing and painting. She was not specifically drawn to this area until she was 23. Whereas she felt limited in other artistic modalities, painting constantly opened new horizons. she envisioned painting as a transparent layering of pure colors.."

Nadia peering to the horizon

UniversalLogos.com is the web home of Nad Wolinska, Artist.

Born in 1963 in France, Nad journeyed through different arts searching for a constant evolution. She studied dance, mime, and breathing techniques that she performed and taught in Paris, complemented by music, singing and boxing. It led her to theatrical stage management, light and sound design. While pursuing informally her natural gift of painting and drawing, these self-taught investigations were the catalyst of her search.

She became a freelance illustrator, fabric designer and realized comic strips . However, it was during her apprenticeship and later collaboration with photo-realist painter Alain Pichereau (1987) that gave her the foundation in painting techniques that would lead to her own process. She worked as a commissioned muralist, portrait painter and set designer.

Moving to Hong Kong (1993), she stopped all commercial work and turned her creative energy inward while traveling the world. Developing her inner life through personal experimentation and revelation. Symbolisms and knowledge gathered, formed a synthesis and gave her an inner direction towards the development of her own technique. She studied the Old Masters' painting technique this in combination with her spiritual discoveries and personal philosophies was a breakthrough for giving rise to her innate, true style.

In London (1997) she created her first series of paintings utilizing her new technique. A body of work which has been exhibited in London, Paris, New York, Italy, Germany, India in both solo and group shows.

Arrived in New York (2001) working as a decorative muralist until 2004 where she received a private grant to realize a new collection of painting. Resulting in the 16 pieces of the "Divine Reality of Human Illusion" collection.

Recipient of the ARTV Muse Awards (2005) in Oil painting Category

Currently, Nadia Wolinska lives in California where she continues her artistic pursuits through selective commissioned works as well as personal explorations in her creative processes

"Nad Wolinska's artistic expression, while grounded in the techne of the old masters, reveals the psyche of the contemporary visionary creative-worker. It is classical and modern; synthetic and natural; human and spiritual. Her art resonates with the cutting edge language of our age‚ as it transcends but includes what has come before. It allows you to think and feel without making oppressively specific references, so that viewers are free to identify with the work. Nad's work breaks down conventional structures while building up a non-denominational art, for it speaks to all of us. Her paintings cross over to connect worlds within worlds, revealing the invisible behind the visible; a unity is unveiled while respecting diversity. It is truly an art of the soul. Her masterpieces are to be enjoyed by all as a constant source of inspiration."

Artist statement

Created by Nad Wolinska, last modified by Torben Brosten 19 Jul 2010, at 09:31 PM

Paint itself is a living medium-it is a perfect vehicle to explore spiritual ideas of understanding and transcendence. My method is a combination of intuitive expressions of my spiritual path, and a divinely inspired technical method that stems from different sources: The Spiritual awakening from Meher Baba, the divine geometries of the Golden Mean, the Symbolism and the mysticism of alchemy.

I approach the painting process in a nonlinear way- through intuition. It can be verbal, or as an impression, it comes from the heart.

Challenging myself with subjects for which I have no intellectual knowledge, forces me to rely on intuition or "Intuitive Knowledge." I begin a painting, as a "Whim," which allowed me to begin my journey into the unknown and find infinity. That infinity is God, the real self. In my life experiences, as with painting, I know that I do not know. This acceptance of my own ignorance opens the door to the path of Knowledge. This is the innate knowledge we all have from the Beginning, which only needs to be revealed

Within the passages of The Nothing and The Everything by Bhau Kalchuri (a close Baba disciple) I found my process of painting. These teachings also led me to a higher understanding of consciousness. This double spiral or the double helix is an ancient symbol that depicts the duel opposing forces of the evolution of life revolving around the involution of consciousness. My realization was based on this: In the beginning was light and the light expressed itself through seven revolving colors of the rainbow. If creation itself took place that way any creation can evolves also the same way.

I use the Golden mean to render a natural harmony of the space and a strong structure. Pigments of pure color are mix based on recipe of an Old Master's technique developed by the 15th century Flemish painter Jan Van Eyck. These color are applied in fourteen layers, the seven colors of the rainbow in succession and then back through the array to complete the process in seven more layers. There is a natural harmony contained within the process itself resulting in deep vibrancy and transparency, which could not have been created any other way.

Through this process, I tap into a dormant knowledge within myself. I sit in front of the unknown, willing to face Eternity. The longing for God makes me paint. I paint what I do not know, which leads me into a higher realm of the soul and to the discovery of infinity. My thoughts and intuition are then expressed into being and are realized in a work of art - thus I pursue my path.
